MALTA CAR HIRE GUIDE

Returning a rental car to Malta Airport

The final airport drive should be planned before the holiday begins. Save the return location, understand the fuel arrangement and allow enough time for the vehicle handover.

Allow a realistic return buffer

Road conditions and traffic can change, even on a small island. Add time for reaching Luqa, locating the car-rental return, refuelling if required, unloading luggage and completing the inspection.

Use the return time on the voucher. Contact the rental team as early as possible if a delay or date change is unavoidable; a requested change may require approval and repricing.

Prepare the vehicle

Remove personal belongings and rubbish, check door pockets and the boot, and return any supplied accessories. Follow the confirmed fuel policy and retain the fuel receipt when useful.

Photograph the vehicle at the return location, including the fuel gauge and mileage. Complete the agreed key and inspection process rather than leaving the vehicle without instructions.

After the handover

Keep the rental agreement, return record and photographs. Any release of a card authorisation can take additional time to appear because the issuing bank controls final availability.

If an issue is recorded, ask for a clear explanation and supporting documentation. Contact the rental team promptly if you later notice an unexpected transaction.
