Malta Airport car hire: what to know before arrival
Malta International Airport is commonly identified by the airport code MLA and is located beside Luqa. Booking airport car hire before arrival gives the rental team time to confirm the vehicle and prepare the collection.
Check dates & pricesWhere airport collection takes place
Rental Car Malta uses Park East Parking, Level 1, at Malta Airport. After baggage collection, follow signs for the Car Rental Office and Park East. Use the directions in your confirmed voucher because airport arrangements can differ between rental suppliers.
Collection is available around a confirmed reservation. Providing the correct arrival flight number helps the team understand when you are expected, although flight fields on the booking form are optional.
Documents and card preparation
Bring the main driver’s valid driving licence and the identification specified in the rental terms. Drivers with licences issued outside their home region should check whether an International Driving Permit or additional documentation is required.
Bring a physical credit or debit card in the main driver’s name with enough available funds for the confirmed excess security deposit. Virtual cards and cards belonging to another person may not satisfy collection requirements, so ask before travelling if your card is unusual.
Plan the return before leaving the airport
Save the return location and allow extra time for fuel, traffic, vehicle inspection and the walk to the terminal. Check the confirmed fuel arrangement instead of assuming every rental uses the same policy.
Inspect the vehicle at collection and make sure existing marks are recorded. Take time-stamped photographs for your records and ask questions before driving away.
